Jackson, MS., April 1, 2023 – Keep Jackson Beautiful is inviting the residents of Jackson to take part in the 2024 Keep Jackson Beautiful Month and Great American Cleanup®, an annual spring cleaning organized by Keep America Beautiful® in which communities and individuals work together to clean and green neighborhoods across America. The Great American Cleanup is a three-month initiative that starts on March 19 and ends on June 20. It kicks off locally on April 6th with a beautification event at 9:00 am at the Tougaloo Community Center.

“We are excited this year to be the recipient of Keep America’s Beautiful Great American Cleanup Grant. This grant will assist Keep Jackson Beautiful with all the projects and events that will take place in April. “We are thankful for the four community proposals that were submitted for Keep Jackson Beautiful Month last year. We decided since we are 60 years old this year why not fund them all! This would not be possible without Keep America Beautiful and its sponsors,” said Keep Jackson Beautiful Executive Director Alicia Crudup.

Each year, the Great American Cleanup engages more than 500,000 volunteers and participants who remove tons of litter from roadways and waterways, plant thousands of flowers, plants, and trees, as well as community and pollinator gardens, and restore public spaces. These collective efforts contribute to providing a healthier and safer place for all residents to live.

Last year, Keep Jackson Beautiful 180 volunteers picked up over 12,400 pounds of litter and planted 7 trees, 54 plants, removed 12 tires, marked 41 storm drains, and collected 11,460 pounds of e-waste.

“With litter and illegal dumpsites plaguing communities in Jackson, Keep Jackson Beautiful Month continues to encourage students, businesses, neighborhood associations, churches, and other community groups to do their part to keep our city clean and beautiful. By working collectively, we all can Keep our Capital Beautiful, added Alicia.”
