Keep Jackson Beautiful (KJB) Launches New Website Help Center
Central location offered for info on litter, reducing holiday waste, and other beautification issues
Jackson, Miss. – Keep Jackson Beautiful (the local Keep America Beautiful affiliate) launched a new website today to assist locals with littering, recycling and beautification issues. The site offers resource lists, government and non-profit contacts, a blog, and an events calendar.
“These online tools offer another way to quickly report litter, get information about proper disposal of hazardous waste, learn about recycling, and participate in clean-up projects,” explains Barbara Ryan, executive director of Keep Jackson Beautiful.” She continues, “For instance, our site includes details on how to reduce holiday waste from wrapping paper and other holiday products and events.” According to Keep America Beautiful, it is estimated that between the Thanksgiving and the New Year holidays, the amount of garbage in the U.S. increases by an extra million tons per week!
The “Help Desk” portion of the site provides links to government and non-profit agencies that can help with environmental issues from reporting litter to disposal of old paint. Other links include: Keep America Beautiful, Keep Mississippi Beautiful, and the city of Jackson’s Solid Waste Division. Go to www.keepjacksonbeautiful.com, click on Help & Links, then Help Desk.
The site also offers details on the “Public Space Adoption” program – in which businesses, neighborhoods and civic groups become the caretakers for public spaces such as traffic islands, medians and entrances into neighborhoods. “Mowing, edging, planting and keeping these areas litter free enhances property values and increases trade, tourism and tax dollars for our city,” explains Ryan.
The Calendar of Events section provides details on how to get involved with programs such as: The Great American Clean-Up, tree plantings, Earth Day programs, and the Garbage Art Recycling contest.
