an Attitude Change

Litter is our number one problem. The attitudes and behavior of both adults and children must change to prevent littering. Litter is not just unsightly; it erodes our community, compromises our quality of life and deters economic development.

Quick fixes, like litter pick ups, are often necessary but we work to achieve
long-term solutions. Solutions only succeed when everyone willingly accepts a share of the responsibility for the community environment.

Programs

Litterbug Program - A litter prevention and recycling program for kids in grades K-6 designed by Keep Jackson Beautiful. Students "act out" litterbugs found on the school yard, at the picnic area, on the water, at the ballpark, in trucks and cars and at home putting out the trash. Litter Free Sports Events - Any outdoor sports event that is clean and free of trash when the game is over! Click here for details.

Public Space Adoption - Businesses, neighborhoods and civic groups are encouraged to become the caretakers for public spaces such as traffic islands, medians and entrances into neighborhoods. Mowing, edging, planting and keeping these areas litter free enhances property values and increases trade, tourism and tax dollars for our city. The Great American Cleanup - The Nation's largest annual community improvement program gives organized groups a variety of ways to create a cleaner, safer, more beautiful environment. 3,000+ school and neighborhood volunteers join KJB and the City of Jackson's Solid Waste Division each March - May to become stewards of the environment in their community. The GAC is built on a foundation of: Individual responsibility, Civic pride, and the Power of Partnerships to Clean-up, Green-up, Fix-up, Beautify and Recycle.
